SMHS yearbook staff held a Pictures with Santa Claus fundraiser on December 14, 2018 in the back of the cafeteria.

On December 14th, 2018, SMHS yearbook staff set up pictures with SMHS’s very own Santa Claus. For the cost of $2, students could have a picture with Santa taken and printed out. This year’s Santa was Mr. Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer sat through all three lunches taking pictures with students.

The Spring Mills yearbook staff has been doing pictures with Santa for the past two years. Every year, there has been a different Santa. The first year the school did the pictures, Mr. Copenhaver was the Santa, and last year it was Mr. Myers. This experience brings joy and happiness to the school, getting everyone into the Christmas spirit.

“Every year, I really look forward to seeing everyone get excited watching Santa walk around, just knowing it’s so close to Christmas time is really exciting,” said senior Sydney DeVaney.

Pictures with Santa Claus is a tradition that goes years back. It started in 1890 with a man in Massachusetts and has taken off dramatically nationwide. Kids everywhere want their pictures with Santa Claus, including the gifts they wish to receive.

“When I was younger, I really looked forward to getting ready with my family and going to take pictures with Santa. We went to the same man every year, and that made it feel more real and special,” said senior Kaylee Bailey.
