The Lady Cardinals basketball team beat the Patriots 53-46 in the Cardinal’s nest on Tuesday, January 15th

After beating the Patriots, the Lady Cardinals upgraded their record to 4-5 on the season. Junior Jada Brooks and sophomore Lexus Hess were the top scorers for the Cardinals. The Lady Cardinals never stopped scoring and did a good job on their defense.

“I’m glad we did well executing our defense and offense to beat the patriots,” said Brooks. It was a close game during the first half, but with the help of senior Kayla Washington and junior Sydney Banire, their defense made the game really close before the first half ended.

“I just followed what coach told me to do when we have to defend our basket,” said Banire. When the second half started, Brooks started scoring more points for the Cardinals. Before the third quarter ended, the scores were really close again.

During the fourth quarter, the Lady Cardinals gave their best effort to outscore the Patriots before the last buzzer. The defense of Banire and Washington persisted in the second half and made the patriots commit a lot of turnovers and missed shots. The Patriots could not stop the Lady Cardinals in the fourth quarter.

“Coach was really happy about how we outplayed the patriots,” said Hess. The Lady Cardinals are hoping for the return to the team of one of their strong players, senior Ivy Perkins, who had a concussion over winter break and has not been able to play since. They are expecting to improve their standings and make a few adjustments for the rest of the season.

The Lady Cardinals are hoping to finish the rest of their season strong and win all their games in the playoffs. They are ready to ball to the next level and make big improvements for this season. They are hoping to take a trophy here in Cardinal Country.
