On Friday, January 18th, the Spring Mills High School boys’ basketball team battled with the Hedgesville Eagles with the Cardinals pulling out with the win.

The Cardinals got off to a slow start in the first quarter only knocking down four field goals, but things started to change for the Cardinals in second quarter.

Senior Darrius Bush, who had a game high of 38 points, got the Cardinals off to a quick start, knocking down a quick 3-pointer. With 5:20 left in the half, senior Rohan Parchment made a crucial foul shot which tied the game at 17 a piece.

The rest of the half both teams kept trading baskets. At the end of the first half, the Cardinals found themselves trailing the Eagles by a score of 28-25.

Senior Christian Henderson got off to a quick start in the second half knocking down a pair of field goals giving the Cardinals a 32-28 lead. From that point, on the Cardinals never looked back, taking control of the game.

Bush managed to score most of the Cardinals’ points in the third, helping the Cardinals to a 44-37 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

“I just go out there every night and try to do whatever I can to give our team the best chance at winning the game. Tonight just happened to be my night hitting shots, but on any given night any one of us can do this,” said Bush.

Bush stayed hot in the fourth adding 15 points to what was already an outstanding performance. Bush would help the Cardinals pick up a huge victory with a final score of 66-56. He had a phenomenal night on the court.

“This was a big game for us. We really wanted to go out and prove to everyone that we are capable of winning big games. We’re going to use this game to build some momentum, and we will see where this season will take us,” said Henderson.
