The football team, cheerleaders, band, and athletic trainers all traveled to Lewisburg that friday night to compete, cheer, and support each other. This was a first for the varsity football team and also the furthest that the team had ever made it in the playoffs.

The Cardinals played their final game of the season against the Martinsburg Bulldogs

“We went out there and showed up like we know how to do and we will continue to do that our next game no matter the opponent,” said junior Chase Henson.

Spring Mills then advanced to quarterfinals for the 2019 WVSSAC football playoffs to take on the Martinsburg Bulldogs at Cobourn field. Going into the game, Spring Mills was ranked number nine with a 8-4 record while Martinsburg was 11-0 ranked at number one. The student section theme was Cardinal Pride and everyone was encouraged to come out and support the team.

The game ended 70-0 with another win for Martinsburg. This game was not a victory for the Cardinals, but it was definitely still a milestone for the team.

“Being in the playoffs is a great feeling. Even though we had a lot of people doubting us we got the job done and made school history,” said senior Brayden Tumblin.

Regardless of the outcome of the game, history has been made in Cardinal Country and the team will only continue to improve in the future.
