Hibachi Express is Amazing and Grub Hub, Not So Much

Over the weekend a friend and I decided to order some food and just hang out. We didn’t want pizza and we can’t drive anywhere so a food delivery app was our way to go. There are so many different apps to choose from such as Door Dash, Postmates, Grub Hub, and Uber Eats. Now this was my first time using a service like this so I didn’t know what to expect.

We decided to use the app Grub Hub because there were more options for food. Door Dash in our area only delivered fast food while Grub Hub delivered restaurants from Maryland as well. We downloaded the app and picked the food we wanted and where we wanted it from. We were both craving Chinese food and we decided to order from Hibachi Express in the Premium Outlets in Hagerstown, Maryland. Hibachi Express is located in the food court. I’ve only been to Hibachi Express once and it was a long time ago. I had no remembrance of what the food tasted like at all.

We ordered the food off of the app and payed before we got our food or before it was even delivered. We ordered the food at 7:00 to give you a little timeline of the story. In the spare time waiting for our food, we watched videos of RING doorbells.

It became 8:00 when we realized that our food had not been delivered yet. We decided to call the restaurant because on the app, it had no name or number for the driver who was going to pick up our food and drop it off. The worker tried to call the driver and he said he would be there in five minutes. The app said we would get our food at 8:30.

8:15 rolls around and we still have not gotten our food yet. I decided to call Grub Hub customer service to see what to do about the situation. They tried to get a hold of our driver, but he did not answer so she left him a message. We then got a call back from the restaurant and the worker was going to deliver the food since the driver did not show up. We didn’t know what to do so we just kind of said okay and we gave him the address to the house.

We called Grub Hub customer service again because we didn’t know what to do about the worker delivering our food and not the actual driver who was supposed to drop off our food. The guy on the phone said he would try calling the driver again. And again, he did not pick up. So he took our name and was going to talk to his supervisor. I’m going to take that as the driver was going to get fired.

8:45 and the worker shows up to the house with our food. We gave him $5 because we felt bad and plus he didn’t have to go out of his way to drive the food. We go inside and start eating the food. This is the part everyone has been waiting for.


Even though we had been waiting for our food for almost 2 hours, the food was not cold at all. It was still warm and it did not feel like it had been sitting out waiting for someone to pick up.

I ordered Beef and Shrimp Teriyaki with Fried Rice and Noodles. My friend got Beef and Chicken with Fried Rice and Noodles. Let me tell you, IT WAS SO GOOD. I don’t know if it tasted really good because we were starving or if it was actually good but either way, we were satisfied.

We dipped our food in Yum Yum Sauce and it tasted even BETTER!

Overall, Hibachi Express gets my approval for their service, food, and quality. Grub Hub….not so much. I will most likely never use Grub Hub again and I’ll just go get the food or use another service like Door Dash or Postmates.
