Crystal Good, an Affrilachian poet and journalist, has had a dream of owning a black owned newspaper since she was sixteen. Thirty years later, she obtained her dream by buying the Black by God The West Virginian newspaper.  This newspaper is centered on black voices from all across the Mountain State.

During the event, she read from some of her writings, including fan favorites from her first collection, Valley Girl.  The audience was fully engaged while she was reading her poem “Boom Boom”, which talks about the struggle of some women in West Virginia.

During the Q & A  one thing she mentioned was that “To be a good writer, you have to be a good reader.”  She also mentioned that she wrote her first poem in elementary school and has always enjoyed writing since that young age.
